M.G. (Marva) Ballard

M.G. (Marva) Ballard has been designing professionally for over 36 years. Established in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1980, the designer has moved operations as she has moved about in her dual career as both a designer and educator.

She relocated from Indianapolis to Tuskegee, AL in 1987 to teach Fashion Merchandising at Tuskegee University. Returning to full-time work as a designer in 1999, she began selling through retailers across the country. Since 2005, the designer has resided and worked in Memphis, TN.

M.G. is best known for her Signature Collection of leather wearable and decorative art.  Items in the collection are owned by many celebrities and professional men and women across the country.  Inspiration for items in the collection stems from many sources and most often feature people - her favorite subject.

As a fine artist, she also works in mixed media, often incorporating leather and other textiles. She sells original pieces, as well as limited edition prints, silk scarves, and a new fun line of wearables and prints based on her graphic art named Fun-Kee Wonderfuls! She is one of the official artists whose work is sold to support the Tom Joyner Foundation.

In 2011 she began offering the Essential Elements Collection of knit apparel.  The basic dress, which is the core garment in the collection, can be customized using a Style Menu.  The dress is the cornerstone of The 50,000 Dresses Project designed to provide earning and learning opportunities for women and fundraising opportunities for charitable organizations.
